Tangle Teezer, the hair brush maker known for its brightly coloured and ergonomic detangling tools, has been acquired by consumer goods firm Bic. The deal, which was announced on Wednesday, saw Bic purchase the entirety of Tangle Teezer for £165 million ($210 million).
The company, originally founded in the UK in 2007, pioneered the design of a new type of hair brush. With patented plastic bristles and a more ergonomic design, the brand claims that its brushes and combs detangle the hair with less damage than traditional tools. Private equity firm Mayfair Equity Partners invested in Tangle Teezer via a managed buyout in July 2021.
Since then, Tangle Teezer has doubled its earnings and grown its annual net sales to more than $76 million. The US is now the companyâs biggest and fastest-growing market.
