After flowers reach full bloom, they must be handled with the utmost care to preserve their health and beauty. Failure to do so can result in an inability to attract customers, and therefore a wasted crop. So, what are the best ways to handle cut flowers postharvest to ensure a long life and high-quality appearance?
American Floral Endowment‘s upcoming webinar on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, as part of its ongoing Grow Pro series, will cover the proper methods and practices of handling cut flowers after harvesting. Topics of the webinar will include:
- How to handle the most important cut flowers.
- Insights on particularly challenging species.
- The latest research-based recommendations on postharvest handling.
The featured speaker for “Postharvest Handling Recommendations for Cut Flowers in 2025” is Dr. John Dole, a Professor in the Horticulture department at North Carolina State University. Dole received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. His research program “focuses on the production and postharvest physiology of floriculture crops.” In addition to his work at NC State, Dole has co-authored eight books and is an Executive Advisor for the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers (ASCFG).
